Deadline: 2 March 2025Program OverviewThe Trailblazer Solicitor Apprenticeship is an award-winning Route to Qualification program that offers aspiring solicitors an alternative path into the legal profession.It’s a great alternative to studying full-time at university if you wish to pursue a career in law without having to take out a student loan. You’ll earn your qualification through a combination of work and part-time study over a period of six years, and at the end of the program, you’ll have the same level of qualification as trainee solicitors who qualify through the traditional route.Apprentice solicitors join the firm’s London office and spend their first 12 months developing an understanding of how the firm operates in business services departments such as Risk and Compliance and the Information Center. At that point, you’ll be transferred into one of our legal practices.Details of the Programhe Trailblazer Solicitor Apprenticeship is open to school leavers who wish to pursue an alternative route to qualification as a solicitor rather than attending a full-time university course. Studying under BPP University Law School tutors, you will develop your teamwork, presenting and time-management skills and earn an LLB (Hons) law degree and the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) qualification.Development &amp; PerksAs an apprentice, you’ll develop professional judgement and the ability to conduct legal work within the ethical and regulatory framework required to work as a solicitor. You’ll also be encouraged to explore different areas of law and practice in depth, including tort law, land law, business law and contract law.The BPP tutors whom you’ll be learning from are qualified lawyers with experience in real-world practice. All assessments and projects relate directly to practical challenges in your workplace, and you’ll gain experience that you can showcase in a digital portfolio.To complete the apprenticeship, you must pass the Solicitors Regulation Authority centralized assessment (SQE 1 and SQE 2), which consists of a range of assessments and the compilation of a portfolio of your work experience.Our online content hub means you can flexibly study—you’ll have access to live tutorials, recorded lectures and online learning materials wherever you are. But we still make sure you’ll receive face-to-face support throughout your studies, with in-person teaching scheduled three times per term at a BPP University study center.

Trainees are involved in the day to day activities of the department to which they are assigned. They attend conferences with clients, counsel and other professional advisers and may be asked to assist in all aspects of the department’s work. Since there is usually only one trainee per department at any one time, the trainee plays a very important role.During each six month period the trainees are given increased responsibility, depending on their ability and aptitude, and are subject to continued assessment. Mid and end of seat appraisals take place.The Firm considers the continuing academic learning of its trainees to be extremely important. In addition to the Professional Skills and induction courses, the Firm runs a formal training programme and trainees are required to attend all lectures and seminars, on various legal topics, held throughout the two year period.Partners, Senior Associates and many others devote a great deal of time to your development. Rolling application deadlineYour first step towards a successful career in lawWe believe that work experience is in an important step for undergraduates seeking to become solicitors. &nbsp;It provides undergraduates with the opportunity to experience life as a solicitor and to try their hand at completing exercises based on real cases to get a true feel for the work types we offer.&nbsp; It is also a great opportunity to learn more about SJP Law, and of course, it is also your chance to show us what you have to offer our firm. &nbsp;We are now offering flexible work experience opportunities, which will replace the traditional Summer Vacation Scheme.&nbsp;You can apply for work experience throughout the year and successful candidates will be offered a bespoke work experience placement at a mutually convenient time.&nbsp; Wherever possible, placements will involve physical time in our office, spending time with our Trainees, Solicitors and Directors, but virtual placements will also be considered.Real experienceOver the course of your placement, you will cover three different seats, in compensation, commercial and property, alongside an introduction to IT – providing you with experience working in different departments.During your time with us, you will get an authentic insight into what life is really like as a solicitor at a top independent law firm. Application deadline: 31 March 2025We run a series of very successful and popular week-long vacation placements in June and July each year in our Hull office.Who do we want?You must be available for a week in the summer of 2025 (applications for 2024 are closed)At that time you should have completed the second year of a law degree, or the third year of an academic non-law degree, and be looking to start a training contract in September 2027.You must have the equivalent of three grade Bs at A level, and, if you have not already done so, you must be on target to attain a 2:1 or above in your degree.Above all we are looking for candidates with the right attitude. We expect our staff to be motivated and enthusiastic, and we look for these qualities in our work experience students.Unlike some firms, we do not believe that work experience should involve photocopying or making tea! You will work on real client matters alongside our trainees, solicitors and lawyers by getting involved in drafting documents, conducting research, meeting clients and going to court.Our programme is organised to allow you to spend time in each of the firm's core departments to experience the sort of work we do. We structure our placements like a mini training contract, and a detailed timetable will be issued to you at the start of your placement.You will participate in group exercises and attend a range of informal presentations to learn how Rollits operates as a business. At the end of the week you will be required to make a presentation to members of the firm and your work experience colleagues. And we don't forget about the social side of things so you will be given the opportunity to meet our lawyers and trainees outside of work in a social setting.A work experience placement at Rollits is an excellent opportunity to gain a true insight into our firm, its culture and its people.
