Training Contract - September 2027 - Rollits
Application deadline: 31 July 2025
We are now accepting applications for September 2027.
We recruit one or two trainee solicitors each year. Our standards of training are recognised as being of the highest calibre and we are proud that at the end of their time with us, our trainees go on to become skilled and highly capable qualified solicitors.
We do not believe in engaging several trainees and then cherry picking the best at the end of their time with us. We look to recruit the right people from the outset, with a view to them enjoying a long and fulfilling career with us.
We consider that trainee solicitors are the future of our firm - which is proven by the fact that many of our partners and senior lawyers trained at Rollits.
What will you do?
You will be based in the Hull office, but may be required to spend time at York.
We expect trainee solicitors to become a valuable member of the Rollits team from day one. Trainees at Rollits learn by doing, by being involved, and by taking responsibility. Our Qualifying Work Experience is split into four seats, each of six months. You will gain experience in company and commercial, dispute resolution and property, and may also have the opportunity of spending time in our private capital department.
You will also be expected to join in with the firm's many and varied business development activities.
What will we do?
We will provide you with work experience incorporating real work, client contact and top quality experience, and support you during this key stage in your career.
Trainees always sit with a qualified lawyer, sometimes a partner, who will supervise you on a day to day basis. In each seat you will be assigned a trainee supervisor who will ensure that things run smoothly for you, and who will keep the training principal fully informed of your progress. We also assign a training "buddy" to first year trainees, who are usually newly qualified lawyers who have recently experienced the demands of the training contract and can offer you informal support and advice.
You will be subject to informal progress reviews on a regular basis, and by more formal appraisals twice in each seat.
Continuing professional development (including the professional skills course) is provided for you through internal and external seminars and workshops.
Who do we want?
Students will need to be able to begin a period of Qualifying Work Experience in September 2027 having completed (and passed) a law degree and LPC or academic non-law degree, GDL, LPC or SQE1 and SQE2 by that date. We are looking for candidates with the equivalent of three grade Bs at A level, and if you have not already done so, you must be on track to obtain a 2:1 or above in your degree.
You must have good written and oral communications skills. We value commercial awareness, and the ability to demonstrate commitment to Rollits and its business region. Above all we are looking for candidates with the right attitude and who are motivated and enthusiastic about a career in the law.
