Grade 4, £25,584 up to £28,624 per annum pro rata

18 hours per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays with other working hours negotiable, permanent contract

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a candidate with legal experience to join our Legal Team. You will be responsible for providing legal support to the Legal Services team.

Reporting directly to the Interim Legal Services Manager, you will be a team player, have excellent oral and written communication and client skills, with an ability and willingness to proactively work with client departments to deliver an effective and efficient legal service to the council.

This role will be office based but there may be the option to work from home if and when it is suitable, upon agreement.

Main accountabilities

Property

Undertake a wide range of property conveyancing matters including:

  • Assisting the property solicitors which will also require liaising with clients and external stakeholders in relation to land and property law.
  • Undertaking legal research of case law and legislation to assist the progression of files based on the legal instruction and undertaking interpretation of rights and obligations, by obtaining Land Registry title’s and documents from the deeds room and reviewing.
  • Assisting with the preparation and collation of correspondence and standard freehold and leasehold documentation through the case management system.
  • Preparing and submitting pre-contract searches and conveyancing enquiries and review, interpret and report on the results.
  • Preparing and submitting Land Registry applications and assisting with any requisitions.
  • Assist the property solicitors with freehold and leasehold disposals, acquisitions, landlord and tenant work and commercial conveyancing.
  • Drafting and preparing the Right to Buy disposal documents in compliance with legislation, including right of first refusal, consent certificate and all other document requests associated with the Right to Buy legislation.
  • Reviewing and drafting responses to boundary enquiries and general housing queries including preparing retrospective consents and checking legal documentation/Land Registry to respond to land ownership queries.

Planning

Support the Planning Solicitor with standard applications including:

  • Tree Preservation Orders – including issuing of the Order, Notices and final confirmation of Order and all associated paperwork.
  • Foot Path Orders - including issuing the Order, Notices, and all associated paperwork.

Job experience

  1. Practical conveyancing experience in the public sector or in the private sector of work relevant to local authority work.
  2. Experience of case management systems.
  3. Experience of legal admin including signing, sealing and document completions.

Knowledge and Qualifications

  1. Hold a law degree or CILEX qualification at level 3 or equivalent
  2. Undertake legal research and interpret and advise on the results.
