We’re dedicated to helping individuals find their passion, grow beyond their expectations and become the best solicitor they can possibly be. As a trainee, you’ll have exposure to the exciting, groundbreaking work we do for international clients, all while benefiting from the non-hierarchal, collegial and collaborative culture of a smaller office.&nbsp;Before you start, you and your fellow trainees will complete the SQE at BPP Holborn (and the GDL if applicable), so that you can begin to form close bonds with your intake.We recruit 15 trainees a year. Typically, law students will apply in their second year of a law degree, so those applying for a 2025 vacation scheme are for training contracts commencing in September 2027. Students who are doing non-law degrees should apply in their final year. Our vacation schemes are also open to graduates.&nbsp;Our recruitment and selection processes are designed to make sure that Ropes &amp; Gray is the right fit for each of the trainees we select. To help us achieve this aim, those interested in a training contact with the firm must attend an assessment day and, if successful, participate in a two-week spring or summer vacation scheme. In order to assess you for a training contract, you will complete an interview and a blog post task. Our trainees are recruited exclusively from our vacation schemes. You will receive a payment of £400 per week&nbsp;for attending one of our vacation schemes and, most importantly, you’ll come away with a crucial network of contacts.All trainees who join us will qualify as a solicitor via the SQE route. Deadline: 17 January 2025Summer Scheme – The Summer Scheme will take place from 23 June 2025 – 4 July 2025.We recruit trainees exclusively through our vacation schemes. All vacation scheme attendees will be interviewed and assessed for a Training Contract/QWE.Over our two-week Vacation Schemes, students have the opportunity to become integrated into the London office and gain an insight into the work of a Covington lawyer.Students have the opportunity to participate in:<ul><li>a series of interactive presentations from practice groups and international offices;</li><li>a group activity;</li><li>networking sessions with trainees, associates, and partners;</li><li>an independent research project focusing on a practice area of interest; and</li><li>social events to help you get to know the firm.</li></ul>Candidates are eligible from their final year of a non-law degree or penultimate year of a law degree. Trainees play a significant role in complex substantive work, and have a chance to make a real impact on work that matters.We offer trainees the opportunity to work on complex projects for clients such as Microsoft, Astra Zeneca and Meta, and engage in cutting-edge pro bono matters. We have advised pharmaceutical manufacturers on purchase and distribution agreements relating to manufacture and supply of COVID-19 vaccines, acted for ACWA Power in relation to the world’s most ambitious regenerative tourism project in Saudi Arabia, and represented Ukraine against the Russian Federation at the International Court of Justice.The candidates we choose are sharp, articulate, and quick thinking. They have confidence and composure, but also honesty and humour. Vacation scheme / Training Contract - 2025 & 2027 - Covington

Deadline 5 January 20252025 Spring Vacation Scheme dates: Monday 31 March – Friday 11 April 2025The spring scheme is open to penultimate-year law students, final-year students and graduates of any subject. We invite up to 15 successful candidates to take part in our yearly vacation scheme.&nbsp;Our preferred method of trainee hiring is via our vacation scheme because it is the best opportunity for you to experience life at Akin, and for us to get to know you better.Our two-week spring vacation scheme is the perfect way to experience what life is really like as an Akin trainee. We have carefully designed a comprehensive programme of interactive training sessions, workshops, networking opportunities and exciting social activities to help you get to know your fellow scheme participants and reps from across the London office. When you’re not attending timetabled sessions, you will split your time between two practice groups and work alongside our partners, associates and current trainees. Whether it be drafting documents, researching points of law, or attending client meetings — you’ll be supported and guided each step of the way by your dedicated scheme supervisor.&nbsp;Although we will be assessing your performance during the programme, we appreciate that you will also be working out whether we are the right firm for you. Your supervisors will provide us with detailed feedback about your time sat in their departments, and you will also get involved in a mixture of written and group tasks. At the end of the scheme, you will be offered the chance to interview for our two-year training programme starting in September 2027.Training Contract Programme StructureWe recruit a maximum of 8 trainees each year and therefore you will be integral to the team from day one. Expect plenty of responsibility and the chance to play a meaningful role in fast-paced, sophisticated client matters.Over the course of your two-year training programme, you will rotate across four different practice areas, spending six months in each. This provides you with the best opportunity to acquire a breadth of experience and an indepth understanding of our business, our work, our clients, and our people. All of our seats provide opportunities to gain exposure to multi-jurisdictional work and our global teams and clients. Everyone’s legal journey is different. Although you may already have an idea about the type of work you’re interested in, our advice is to remain open-minded.
