These will take place within four of our eight departments: Corporate, Commercial, Commercial Dispute Resolution, Private Client, Employment, Health &amp; Regulatory, Housing and Real Estate. Your seat choices are extremely important and we work with our trainees to ensure they get a broad experience of the firm, while also catering for your own personal ambitions and areas of interest.You might also have an opportunity to work with one of our clients on a secondment basis. These are typically with our larger clients as part of their in-house legal team .Training and supportThe training contract begins with a two-week induction programme to introduce you to the firm, your first team, your fellow trainee solicitors and our systems and processes. This ensures you are fully prepared when you undertake your first seat.Trainee/NQ buddy systemDuring the induction process you will be assigned a ‘buddy’, who will be a NQ solicitor. As someone who has recently completed their training contract, they will be ideally placed to offer support and guidance and answer any questions you may have. Once in your seat, you will work through a structured programme, perform real work and your mentor will oversee your development over the next six months. As a trainee you will work with three or four Directors, gaining experience in several different areas of law: shipping litigation, international trade, commercial contracts, sale of goods and ship finance.&nbsp;Most of your training will be work on actual cases, under supervision. Typical trainee tasks include reviewing documents, carrying out legal research, giving advice to clients by telephone or email, participating in meetings, drafting pleadings, and assisting with trial preparation. You will move on to more complex work and build your knowledge and skills base as your training contract progresses.&nbsp;Our starting salary for 2024 was £33,000. We also provide private health care and thirty-four days of annual leave (including bank holidays). We also have a pension scheme and a private health care plan. During the week you will sit with one of our Directors, experience the work we do for yourself, and attend internal seminars and social events.During vacation schemes the firm will arrange and pay for accommodation for students who do not live locally and will pay travel expenses from within the UK. Application deadline of 30th June 2025SQE routeThe new route for becoming a solicitor involves sitting two sets of exams, SQE1 and SQE2 and undertaking a two year period of Qualifying Work Experience (QWE).When joining us via this route, we would expect you to already have SQE1 by the time of your start date, and any previous QWE registered and approved.&nbsp; We will fund the SQE2 exam as a part of your offer.This programme is usually recruited for two years in advance of commencement, with applications for our 2027 intake now open.
