Trainee Solicitor 2026

The training contract consists of two years qualifying work experience, comprising four six-month seats in the following practice areas:
(i) Private Client;

(ii) Family;

(iii) Property (Residential/Commercial/Landed Estates); and

(iv) Combined seat in Dispute Resolution, Corporate & Commercial and Charities.

Our training programme focuses on the development of essential practical legal skills, including drafting documents and correspondence, maintaining and developing client relationships and conducting legal research. We believe in a ‘hands on’ approach to training and as they progress trainees will be given increasing responsibility and client contact.

Key Responsibilities

Trainees will be asked to undertake a mix of substantive and procedural tasks. They will be expected to assist on all aspects of case progression, under partner supervision. Tasks are likely to include:

- conducting legal research;

- preparing letters/notes of advice;

- attending client meetings and making attendance notes;

- briefing barristers on clients’ cases and attending conferences with counsel;

- drafting applications to court and supporting witness statements;

- preparing court bundles; attending court hearings and taking a note;

- assisting in the preparing of contractual documents, wills and trusts;

- liaising with clients on fee estimates and costs.

Administrative duties include:

- maintaining your training record;

- completing daily time recording;

- following procedures for opening, maintaining and closing files.


Trainees will receive initial and ongoing compliance training.

They will be expected to assist with/participate in marketing and business development initiatives including writing blogs/articles and attending networking events.

Tasks will involve working on own initiative as well as teamwork. Trainees are expected to communicate clearly and appropriately with clients, colleagues and third parties.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Applicants will be expected to have:

- At least a 2:1 degree with minimum grades of AAB at A Level in an academic subject. A law degree is not essential.

- Passed the LPC or SQE1 and SQE2 before they commence their training contract.

Our Hiring Process

Stage 1

Application

Once you have submitted your application it will be reviewed by the team. You will receive notification by close of business on 9 May either that (a) you are invited to a first interview, or (b) that your application has not been successful.

Stage 2

1st Interview

First interviews will take place in the weeks commencing 12 and 19 May and will be conducted by video call by Henry Hood and Mary Elliott. Following your first interview, you will receive notification by 31 May either that (a) you are invited to our vacation scheme/2nd interview or (b) that your application is not being taken further.

Stage 3

Vacation Scheme and 2nd Interview

The one-week vacation scheme which incorporates the second interview, written assessments and presentations, as well as experience in each department, will take place the weeks commencing 16 and 23 June 2025. Candidates will be asked to attend our offices every day for one of those two weeks.

Stage 4

Hired

The successful candidates will receive offers by close of business on 11 July 2025.
