Trainee Criminal Law and Courts Martial Law solicitors wanted! You must have a clear and demonstrable interest in the areas of law the firm practises.

Job Description – Graduate Apprentice Solicitor

  • Providing litigation and administrative support to fee earners and the Partnership;
  • To attend clients both on the phone and in person at the office and at other locations as required including but not limited to Courts, Police Stations, Prisons and Counsel’s Chamber;
  • To attend with Counsel at Court;
  • To take client instructions and draft briefs to Counsel;
  • To assist with electronic and paper diary management including entering all times, dates and details of appointments, Court hearings and Police Station attendances are entered into both paper and electronic diaries;
  • Providing typing support when required; filing; photocopying and scanning; preparation and pagination of bundles; answering telephone queries; recording attendance notes onto both electronic and paper files;
  • Time recording; and
  • Any other reasonable requests made by the Partners in keeping with this job role

In order to enable you to discharge your above duties training will be provided in the following areas:

1. Communication skills;

2. Managing yourself and your own work;

3. Establishing and maintaining professional relationships;

4. Drafting;

5. Interviewing and advising;

6. Ethics, professionalism and judgement;

7. Legal research:

8. Advocacy and oral presentation skills;

9. Case and transaction management;

IMPORTANT

As part of your training, you will be required to undertake a mini-pupillage in chambers lasting a minimum of two weeks. This will be arranged at a mutually convenient time between yourself taking into account your studies; the needs and workflow of the firm and the capacity of chambers. Your reasonable travel expenses incurred during this period will be met by the firm.

All successful applicants will be required to undertake the Police Station Accreditation Programme during their first year of employment. This will be fully funded by the firm who will provide training and supervision. Upon full qualification there will be a salary increase and the ability to earn overtime.

Qualifications required

2.2 Qualifying law degree; or other undergraduate degree of equivalent grade accompanied by GDL completion.
